How to Program BMW Key

Drivers choose the BMW because of its marriage of performance and comfort. A significant aspect of the BMW’s convenience is its keyless entry, allowing drivers to remotely lock, unlock, and even start their vehicle. It is not all effortless, though. As an electronic device, the key fob is susceptible to malfunctioning, damage, and, of course, a dead battery. If your BMW key fob is not doing its one job, then read through this article to determine whether a reprogramming will get it back on track. This quick guide will show you how to program a BMW key fob. If you prefer to have an experienced locksmith take care of it, then call Top Atlanta Locksmith to get in touch with a live representative. This way, you can keep your peace of mind.

Programming Extra Key Fobs

If you already have a working key fob and want to program additional keys, then follow these steps:

  • Grab your working key fob as well as the new key fobs that you wish to program.
  • Get in the car and make sure all doors and windows are closed. Close the trunk as well.
  • Insert the working key into the ignition and turn it one tick to the first position. This should turn on the dash lights and other accessories.
  • Turn the key back and remove it.
  • Hold down the working key’s unlock button and press the lock button (or BMW logo) three times, then release the unlock button. You should hear the doors automatically lock and unlock.
  • Quickly do the same for the new key fob. Hold down the unlock button while you press the BMW logo (or lock button) three times, then release the unlock button. The doors should automatically lock and unlock.

That’s it. You are done. You can do this for all of the BMW key fobs you wish to program.

Programming A New BMW Key Fob from Scratch

So, what if you have lost your original BMW key fob or it is not working? These instructions will help you program a new BMW key fob when you do not have a working BMW key fob:

  • Insert the new BMW key fob into the ignition.
  • Turn the key to the first position and back into the original position five times, rapidly.
  • Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Hold the unlock button while pressing the BMW logo (or lock button) three times, then let go of the unlock button.
  • Finally, turn on the ignition to complete the process.

Now that you have a working key fob, you can program additional key fobs with the steps in the previous section.
